TRIO FOR TWO
These two well-known young musicians regularly
perform the classical and contemporary repertoire as soloists with major
orchestras and as chamber musicians at international festivals. However,
they are also fascinated by the artistic possibilities of presenting
music from very different periods by combining the violin with
bass-baritone/cello performed by one person. Another much-acclaimed
specialty of the "Trio for Two" is the juxtaposition of old traditional
songs (in Spanish, Ladino, Hebrew, Russian, Basque, Aramaic, Armenian
etc) and instrumental music from the Renaissance, the Baroque, the
Romantic period, and the present. The brilliant virtuosity and the rich
and multicolored sound of their original arrangements have already
scored major triumphs throughout Europe. No other ensemble currently
offers such programs.
The "Trio for Two" is named after the eponymous
composition written for and dedicated to them by the noted Russian
composer Evgeny Shcherbakov. The "Trio for Two" has successfully
premièred this piece at the Lucerne Festival 2004. Recently the Swiss
composer Balz Trümpy has composed for, and dedicated to them his "Duetti
concertanti".
