Kamilla Schatz

The Swiss violinist Kamilla Schatz has appeared at numerous international festivals and in major concert halls, including the Berliner Festwochen, the Lucerne Festival, the Schleswig-Holstein Musikfestival, the Beethovenhaus Bonn, the Tonhalle Zürich, the Musikfestival Davos, and the Nordwestdeutscher Rundfunk Hamburg. During the season 2005 she will participate at Gidon Kremer's festival "les muséiques" and will perform violin concertos by Schumann, Bartok, Lalo, Mozart, Hartmann and Sibelius. Her teachers included Françoise und Sandor Zöldy in Basel, Szymon Goldberg at he Curtis Institute in Philadelphia, and Lorand Fenyves in Toronto.
While still a student, Kamilla Schatz received many national first prizes, including the Studienpreis of the Migros-Genossenschafts-Bundes and the Kiefer-Hablitzel-Foundation, as well as international prizes at violin competitions in Canada and Italy. She has appeared as soloist with renowned orchestras such as the SWR-Sinfonieorchester Baden-Baden-Freiburg, the Sinfonieorchester Basel, the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana, the Northern Sinfonia, the Bieler Sinfonieorchester, the Zürcher Kammerorchester, the Winterthurer Stadtorchester, the Russian Chamber Orchestra Sofia, and the Salzburger Kammerorchester. The Swiss composer Balz Trümpy dedicated to her a violin concerto which she performed under the baton of Heinrich Schiff and Marko Letonja. She also maintains regular contacts with other contemporary composers, most notably Frangis Ali-Sadé ,Tigran Mansurjan, Per Norgard and Heinz Holliger, and functions as Artistic Director of the Kulturfestival "Resonanzen" at St. Moritz, which she founded in 2003. Kamilla Schatz holds a professorship at the Musikhochschule Trossingen in Germany.
